ShipMonk Help for Shopify: 3PL Onboarding, SKU Mapping and Order Sync

ShipMonk is a third-party logistics (3PL) company, and its Shopify app, listed as ShipMonk | Order Fulfillment, connects your store to its warehouses. Products, orders and inventory sync in real time, and tracking flows back to Shopify. The app is free to install. Pick-and-pack, storage and shipping are billed by ShipMonk outside your Shopify invoice. ShipMonk on the Shopify App Store.

The connection itself takes a few clicks. The work around it takes longer: matching every variant and bundle to what the warehouse stocks, mapping Shopify locations to fulfillment centers, deciding which tagged orders ShipMonk should hold, and keeping stock counts honest while you switch over from packing in-house or from another 3PL.

When no profile below fits, the order management and inventory specialists linked at the end of this page take on ShipMonk work as well.

Open with your monthly order volume, SKU count, any kits, and the sales channels that should send orders to ShipMonk.

ShipMonk 3PL setup work that needs an operator

ShipMonk's implementation team helps with the setup itself. Your side is the data and the rules that tell the warehouse what to ship.

Variant-to-product matching. Each Shopify variant needs a ShipMonk product with weights and dimensions the warehouse can bill against. An order containing an unmatched SKU has nothing to pick.

Kits and bundles. ShipMonk handles bundles and kits through catalog rules that can change by region or stock level. Someone has to decide which bundles ship pre-built and which are assembled at pick time, because kitting is quoted as a special project.

Fulfillment center mapping. Shopify locations map to ShipMonk fulfillment centers in one click. The real decision is which stock sits where, and when an order should be split across warehouses.

Hold and routing tags. Orders can be routed or held by Shopify tags such as VIP, fraud_risk or urgent. Agree which tags exist, what applies them, and what ShipMonk does with each.

Peak-season buffers. Buffer inventory stops the store overselling when counts move fast. Setting buffers per SKU needs sales history, not a single store-wide number.

Cross-border orders. Tax ID mapping is automated for orders to Brazil, Mexico, China and South Korea. Run a test order to each market you sell into.

When ShipMonk's own team is enough. A single store with a clean catalog, no bundles and one warehouse can usually go live with the implementation team and its Happiness Engineers alone.

Vetting a ShipMonk integration specialist

You are hiring for warehouse logic more than app skills. These questions show whether someone understands what happens after the connect button.

How would you match our catalog? A good answer starts with a SKU export, flags variants missing weights or barcodes, and asks about bundles before anything else. Inventory management specialists tend to answer this well.

How would you test the monthly minimum? ShipMonk sets it during the sales process from your order volume and first-item pick fee. A useful adviser models your slowest month against it before you sign.

How does stock stay accurate during cutover? Expect a sequence: inbound shipment, receiving and count at ShipMonk, buffers set, then the Shopify location switched. No sequence means double-shipped or stranded orders.

Can you read a ShipMonk invoice? Fees are itemized by pick-and-pack, receiving, returns and per-SKU storage. Someone who can reconcile that against Shopify orders is worth more than a fast installer.

Signals to pass on someone. Quoting you shipping rates before ShipMonk has, or wanting to go live without a test batch.

A first engagement to pay for. A SKU and location mapping sheet plus a ten-order test plan: single item, bundle, international, tagged hold.

ShipMonk pricing, minimums and sync behavior to plan for

Two separate bills. The app is free to install. ShipMonk bills pick-and-pack, storage and shipping separately from your Shopify invoice, in USD. As of October 2026 it publishes no fee amounts: each merchant gets a custom quote covering platform, onboarding and any add-on technology.

Fees that move with volume. Fulfillment fees adjust to order volume and cover pick-and-pack, receiving and returns. Storage is charged by product size, sales and quantity, tracked per SKU.

The monthly minimum. ShipMonk's pricing page describes it as monthly order volume multiplied by the first-item pick fee, reduced by 20%. Seasonal brands should check it against their quiet months.

Batch shipments. Subscription and crowdfunding batches need at least 50 orders. Smaller batches carry a batching fee.

Line items that add up. Returns are charged per carton and additional item. Gift messages, custom packaging and fragile wrapping cost extra. Labeling, inventory counts and kitting are quoted before work starts.

Sync runs both ways. Inventory sync is two-way and real time, so decide before launch which system owns stock counts. If numbers drift, the inventory sync troubleshooting guide is the first check.

Reach. ShipMonk ships to more than 200 countries. The app listing is in English only.

ShipMonk questions from Shopify merchants

What is ShipMonk and how does it connect to Shopify?

ShipMonk is a 3PL: it stores your inventory, then picks, packs and ships your orders. Its Shopify app syncs products, orders and inventory in real time and sends tracking back to the order. Behind it, ShipMonk runs its own order, warehouse and inventory management software and lists more than 100 cart, marketplace and solution provider integrations.

How does ShipMonk pricing work?

As of October 2026 ShipMonk publishes no rates. You request a quote, and it prices on typical monthly order volume. Expect pick-and-pack, receiving, returns, per-SKU storage and carrier shipping, plus a monthly minimum set during sales. Ask for the minimum and every add-on fee in writing before you sign.

Do I need a developer to install the ShipMonk app?

Not for the connection. ShipMonk says it takes a few clicks with no coding, and its implementation team helps. Outside help earns its fee when you run bundles, several warehouses, tag-based holds or more than one sales channel feeding orders into ShipMonk, since those need decisions the installer won't make for you.

Can ShipMonk fulfillment handle subscription box batches?

Yes, as batches. ShipMonk's pricing page sets a minimum of 50 orders per batch for subscription or crowdfunding shipments and charges a batching fee below that. Check the batch timing against your renewal dates so boxes don't wait in the queue.

How do I switch to ShipMonk from another 3PL without a stockout?

Overlap the two. Send inventory to ShipMonk first, let it receive and count, set buffers, then map the Shopify location and move order flow on a quiet weekday. Keep the old warehouse shipping until ShipMonk's counts match your records.

What should I send a specialist before ShipMonk onboarding?

Monthly orders by channel, a SKU export with weights and dimensions, your bundle and kit list, current stock locations, the order tags you already use, international destinations, and ShipMonk's quote if you have one. Add your peak months so buffers and minimums are planned around them.
