The dashboard turns most features into switches. These are the places a switch needs someone thinking behind it.
Sizing the plan to the backlog. Pay as you go includes 50 images a month, then 3 cents each, so a 10,000-image first pass costs about $300. Beginner, Advanced and Expert include 1,500, 5,000 and 15,000. Clear the backlog on a bigger tier, then drop down.
Protecting images in other apps. Optimization gives each image a new URL. Apps that saved the old address, review apps above all, show broken images until they re-scan. An expert lists those apps before the first bulk run.
ALT text and filenames at catalog scale. Both are on every plan. Read what gets written for a sample of products before it runs across thousands of images.
One set of structured data. If your theme already outputs product schema, adding the app's JSON-LD can leave duplicates. Pick one source, as the Shopify schema markup guide explains.
Mapping dead URLs. Advanced finds 404s and sets 301s; Expert also redirects deleted products automatically. Someone still decides where each old URL should land.
Speed past the images. Lazy loading, preloading and minification help, but theme code and app scripts often matter more. That deeper work belongs to performance specialists.
Small stores can self-serve. A standard theme, a few hundred products and two or three apps: Beginner and an afternoon of settings usually cover it.
