Shopify Fulfillment Network

Shopify Fulfillment Network Experts for 3PL Onboarding

Shopify Fulfillment Network no longer means Shopify running warehouses. Shopify sold its logistics operation in May 2023, and SFN today is a free app that connects merchants fulfilling from the US with vetted third-party logistics (3PL) partners and lets them manage those partners from the admin.

That changes what you hire for. An expert helps you pick a 3PL from the network, gets product data into the shape that partner demands, and configures locations, inventory transfers, shipping rates and order routing once the connection is live.

We count 5 Shopify Fulfillment Network badge holders on shopexperts in October 2026: four agencies and one freelancer, in Canada, Belgium, North Macedonia and Romania. Compare them below, and open with your monthly order volume and SKU count.

What Shopify Fulfillment Network experts do since the 2023 sale

The job used to be onboarding onto Shopify's own fulfilment centres. Now it's a 3PL selection and integration project run through Shopify's hub, and the expert's value lies in the decisions around the connection.

Choosing a partner. SFN lets you discover and compare 3PLs inside the admin, and its recommendation tool estimates fulfilment and monthly storage fees. Treat those as estimates. Shopify itself says real pricing depends on your requirements and contract negotiations, so an expert turns the shortlist into firm quotes.

Product data clean-up. Every product needs a barcode and a SKU and has to meet the chosen 3PL's standards. The directly integrated partner also wants a unique SKU on every variant, with no spaces or special characters. On a catalogue built up over years, this is where most of the hours go.

Two accounts, one connection. One partner connects directly from the Fulfillment Network app. The rest connect by installing their own app, each with different setup steps, requirements and prices, and you also open an account with the 3PL itself. An expert keeps both sides moving so nothing stalls in between.

Locations, transfers and routing. Once connected, the store needs inventory transfers into the partner's warehouse, shipping rates that reflect the new origin, and order routing that sends each order to the right place. Connecting the direct partner also creates a new SFN location in Shopify.

Watching performance. Fulfilment performance is visible in the admin. A good expert leaves you with a simple routine for reviewing it, so problems surface in a report rather than in customer emails.

How to choose a Shopify Fulfillment Network expert

Five badge holders is a small pool, and only two list operations, logistics and fulfilment as a service category. That's a reason to ask sharper questions, not to skip the shortlist.

Check they know today's SFN. Anyone describing inventory shipped to Shopify-run warehouses is working from pre-2023 material. The current product is a partner hub, and advice built on the old one will be wrong in the details.

Ask about real onboardings. Which 3PLs in the network have they connected a store to? How did they handle barcode and SKU clean-up? How would they test order routing before live orders flow through it?

Red flags. Quoting the recommendation tool's fee estimates as final prices, skipping the 3PL's own account setup, or promising delivery speeds. Speed and cost sit in the 3PL contract, not in the app.

A small paid first task. A catalogue readiness check: every variant tested against the barcode and SKU rules, with a list of what fails and why. The failure list is useful whichever 3PL you choose, and it tells you early whether the clean-up is days of work or weeks.

Four of the five are agencies, so ask who will actually do the work and who will be talking to the 3PL day to day.

Shopify Fulfillment Network pricing, eligibility and listing quirks

The app is free; fulfilment isn't. Installing Fulfillment Network costs nothing. The App Store listing describes end-to-end fulfilment priced per item, with each product priced by weight, and every partner sets its own requirements and prices. In practice, your real cost is the 3PL contract you sign.

US fulfilment only. Shopify makes the app available only to businesses fulfilling out of the United States. A brand shipping from anywhere else needs a direct 3PL arrangement instead.

The name outlived the operation. Shopify sold Shopify Logistics to a logistics company in May 2023, and the buyer became Shopify's preferred logistics partner. Guides written before the sale describe a service that no longer exists in that form.

Two App Store listings. A legacy listing from August 2022 still talks about Shopify shipping your orders. The current Fulfillment Network app launched in February 2024. Make sure you're reading, and installing, the current one.

Partner lists don't match. The App Store listing and Shopify's help centre name different 3PLs, and five partners joined in August 2025. Confirm in your own admin which partners are offered before building a plan around one.

Sync runs on a timer. The directly integrated partner syncs products every four hours. A product added on the morning of a launch may not reach the warehouse system until later that day, so build the catalogue early.

Work these SFN experts take on

Store setup and management is on four of the five profiles, development on three. That means as much help with the Shopify side of the move as with the warehouse side.

What merchants ask about Shopify Fulfillment Network

Does Shopify still run its own fulfilment centres?

No. Shopify sold its logistics business in May 2023, and the buyer became Shopify's preferred logistics partner. Shopify Fulfillment Network now refers to a free app that connects merchants fulfilling from the US with vetted 3PLs. Shopify builds the hub; the 3PLs do the picking, packing and shipping.

What does Shopify Fulfillment Network cost?

The app is free to install. You pay the 3PL you choose, and the App Store listing describes fulfilment priced per item by weight. The recommendation tool gives estimated fulfilment and monthly storage fees, but Shopify notes that actual pricing varies with your requirements and contract negotiations. Get written quotes before you commit.

Can I use SFN if I fulfil from outside the US?

No. Shopify makes the Fulfillment Network app available only to businesses fulfilling out of the United States. If your stock sits in Canada, the UK or elsewhere, the app isn't an option, and an operations expert can help you set up a 3PL relationship directly instead.

What product data does a 3PL need before I connect?

Barcodes and SKUs on every product, and products that meet the chosen partner's standards. The directly integrated partner adds stricter rules: each variant needs its own unique SKU, with no spaces or special characters. Fixing this after stock has shipped to a warehouse is far more painful than fixing it first.

How quickly do product changes reach the warehouse?

For the directly integrated partner, products sync every four hours through the SFN location the connection creates in Shopify. Other partners connect through their own apps, each with its own setup, so ask the expert to confirm sync timing for the partner you pick before you schedule a launch.

Are Shopify Fulfillment Network experts the same as the network's partners?

No. In SFN, the partners are the 3PLs themselves. The experts on this page help you choose one, prepare your catalogue and configure the connection, and this page claims no official status for them. Ask each one for a store they've connected to a network 3PL, and what went wrong on the way.
