Shopify Order Printer App Help: Invoices, Packing Slips, Pick Lists

The Shopify Order Printer app is Shopify's own free app for printing invoices, packing slips, receipts and pick lists from the order data in your admin. Customer-facing templates are written in HTML, CSS and Liquid, and up to 50 orders print in one batch from the Orders page. See Shopify Order Printer on the Shopify App Store.

Printing the defaults is easy. Documents that carry your brand, show tax lines correctly and suit how the stockroom picks take template work. So does moving templates over from the legacy Order Printer app, which Shopify describes as deprecated and no longer maintained.

When no profile below fits, the order management and theme specialists linked at the end of this page take on Order Printer work as well.

Send a sample of the document you want, one real order number and the printer your team uses.

Order Printer jobs where a developer pays off

Order Printer templates are code. That is usually the point where a merchant stops and calls someone.

Branded invoices and packing slips. Logo, fonts, colors and layout live in the HTML, CSS and Liquid of each template, and previews run against real orders. That kind of Liquid editing sits with Shopify developers.

Leaving the legacy app behind. The new app's Import button brings custom templates across and updates Liquid variables wherever possible. Wherever it can't, someone has to read the template and fix it.

Tax lines shown properly. If invoices must present tax a certain way for your market, a sales tax and VAT specialist should sign off the layout before it reaches customers.

Pick lists built for the floor. The pick list editor chooses which fields show and how they are grouped. Field order should follow how your team walks the stockroom.

Days with more than 50 orders. The app prints up to 50 orders at a time, and Shopify points to a CSV export beyond that. Designing a daily routine around the cap is order management work.

Documents at the counter. POS staff can print order documents from an Order Printer tile on the smart grid with a standard printer. POS printer receipts themselves can't be customized.

A logo swap on the default invoice. Shopify Support can help with minor customizations. Try that before paying anyone.

Choosing someone to build your Order Printer templates

Plenty of developers know Liquid. Fewer have shipped Order Printer templates that survive real orders.

Ask to see one printed from a real order. A good candidate shows the template code and explains which order variables feed each block.

Ask which orders they will preview against. Strong answers name awkward cases: several tax lines, discounts, refunds, and orders long enough to spill onto a second page. Previewing a single tidy order proves little.

Ask about legacy imports. If you are moving from the legacy app, ask what usually breaks after Import and how they check each template. Shopify only promises variable updates where possible.

Ask where the code will be kept. Templates are code that staff can overwrite. Agree that a copy of each finished template is stored outside Shopify.

Ask about the print step. Browser headers and footers need switching off, and PDFs come from the browser's print dialog. Someone who has done this will mention both unprompted.

Start with a paid trial: one invoice template, previewed on three real orders and printed on your own printer.

How the Shopify Order Printer app prints, previews and imports

Bulk printing. In Orders, select orders, open More actions, choose Print with Order Printer, pick the templates in the sidebar and click Print. The Shopify mobile app has the same flow.

The 50-order cap. Up to 50 orders print at a time. For more, Shopify suggests exporting orders to CSV.

Browser print settings. Uncheck Headers and footers in the print window. Save as PDF through Chrome's Destination menu or the PDF button on a Mac.

Point of sale. Add the Order Printer tile to the smart grid, select orders, choose documents and print to any standard printer that works with the device.

Templates. HTML, CSS and Liquid, previewed with real orders. Pick lists have their own field editor.

Legacy import. Both apps must be installed. In the new app, open Templates and click Import, then preview every template and print a test.

Where support stops. Shopify Support helps with minor changes. Larger ones go to an outside designer or developer.

Shopify Order Printer questions from busy order desks

Is the Shopify Order Printer app free?

Yes. Shopify publishes it at no charge, as the App Store showed in October 2026. What costs money is template work: branded layouts, tax lines, pick list design or a legacy import that needs fixing. A single invoice template is usually a small, well-defined job to quote.

Is the legacy Order Printer app still supported?

No. Shopify's help center says it has been deprecated and is no longer supported or maintained, without giving a shutdown date. Install the new app, use Templates > Import while both are installed, then preview and test-print each template before removing the old one.

How many orders can I print at once?

Up to 50 per batch from the Orders page, using Print with Order Printer. For larger runs Shopify suggests exporting orders to CSV. On busy days, splitting runs by shipping method keeps each batch under the cap and the packing bench in order.

Can I edit Shopify Order Printer templates without coding?

Partly. Pick lists have an editor for choosing and arranging fields. Invoices, packing slips and other customer-facing templates are HTML, CSS and Liquid, so anything beyond a small tweak needs someone comfortable with code. Shopify Support covers minor changes only.

Does Order Printer work with Shopify POS?

For order documents, yes. Add the Order Printer tile to the POS smart grid and print to a standard printer that works with your device. The listing says POS printer receipts can't be customized. The POS setup guide covers the rest of the counter.
