Shopify TSE (KassenSichV) is Shopify's own app for German retailers selling in person on Shopify POS. It connects POS sales to a certified cloud technical security system (TSE) run by Fiskaly, prints TSE data on receipts, and exports the DSFinV-K data auditors ask for. It costs $9 USD per store location per month, on top of POS fees. Check the App Store listing.
The install is a short wizard. Merchants want help with what surrounds it: tax identifiers and complete location addresses, picking every location that handles sales, refunds or exchanges, receipt printers, test exports, and the cash register declaration German retailers have had to file since January 1, 2025.
When no profile below fits, the POS setup and sales tax specialists linked at the end of this page take on TSE work as well.
Before anyone starts, list your German locations and confirm you have your VAT ID and 13-digit tax number to hand.
Shopify supports the app itself and setup takes a few screens. The work around it decides whether an audit goes smoothly.
Tax identifiers first. Setup asks for a VAT ID and a 13-digit Steuernummer. Have both ready before anyone opens the app, confirmed with your tax adviser.
Complete location addresses. TSE registration needs a full address for every store location, so gaps in Shopify's location settings get fixed before activation.
Every location selected. Shopify's setup asks you to include all retail locations, including ones that only handle refunds and exchanges.
Receipts that carry TSE data. Auditors check TSE data on printed receipts. Any receipt printer supported by the current Shopify POS works. A POS setup specialist handles hardware and the app update.
A DSFinV-K export you have tested. Pick a date range and a ZIP arrives by email with DSFinV-K data, TSE certificates and Shopify transaction data for current and past active locations.
The cash register declaration. You create a taxpayer profile in the app and export an XML declaration, which arrives by email within 24 hours. Your bookkeeper or VAT setup specialist should see it next.
Single-store shortcut. One German shop, a current POS app and tax numbers in hand: Shopify's own setup guide is enough.
Few Shopify specialists work on German cash register rules. Look for someone who knows Shopify POS well and works alongside your Steuerberater rather than replacing them. Shopify experts in Germany are a sensible place to start.
Ask what they need from you. A good answer lists the VAT ID, the 13-digit tax number, full addresses for every location, and which locations take payments, refunds or exchanges.
Ask how they test an export. They should run a DSFinV-K export for a short date range and confirm it holds TSE certificates and transaction data for every active location.
Ask about the declaration. Expect them to know the 2025 reporting duty and the XML export from the app's taxpayer profile.
Ask who gives tax advice. A Shopify specialist configures the app. What the law requires of your business is a question for a German tax adviser.
Distrust any guarantee that the tax office will accept your setup. Only the authorities decide that.
One location, one day, one export. Activate a single location, ring up a sale and a refund, print both receipts, then export that day and send it to your adviser.
Paid plans, priced per location. The app runs on all paid Shopify plans. Billing is $9 USD per store location per month from the install date, through the App Store, in addition to POS subscription fees.
The TSE lives in the cloud. In-store transactions are stored externally by Fiskaly, a third-party provider whose BSI-certified cloud TSE is the certified part of the setup.
Locations switch on and off. TSE activates per retail location and can be deactivated at any time. Exports still cover past active locations.
POS must be current. Shopify asks you to update the POS app to the latest version before setup.
The rule has applied since 2021. Shopify's help center states that German retail merchants must comply with KassenSichV from April 1, 2021.
Everything arrives by email. Transaction exports come as a ZIP, and declaration XML files can take up to 24 hours.
Two interface languages. The app is available in English and German.
Settings stay editable. Tax identifiers change under Settings, and active locations under Manage TSE.
German POS compliance work on Shopify usually comes in these pieces.
Tax IDs entered and every German location switched on
Full addresses added so TSE registration goes through
Supported printers tested with TSE data on receipts
A short date range exported and reviewed with your adviser
Taxpayer profile created and the XML declaration exported
TSE switched on for a new location before its first sale
$9 USD per store location per month as of October 2026, billed through the App Store from the day you install it. That is in addition to your POS subscription fees, so three German stores cost $27 a month for the app alone. It runs on all paid Shopify plans.
The app is built for in-person sales. It connects Shopify POS sales to the TSE and is switched on per retail location. If you run no POS locations in Germany, the app has no sales to record. Whether your business needs a TSE at all is a question for your tax adviser.
Your VAT ID, your 13-digit Steuernummer, a complete address on every Shopify location, the latest POS app on each device, and a list of locations that take payments, refunds or exchanges. Check that your receipt printers are supported by the current Shopify POS before go-live.
Open the app, choose a date range, apply it and export. An email arrives with DSFinV-K data, TSE certificates and Shopify transaction data for all current and past active locations. Run a test export early, so the first one an auditor sees is not the first one you have opened.
Shopify describes an export, not an automatic filing. You create a taxpayer profile in the app's settings, export the XML declaration and receive it by email within 24 hours as a zip file. Agree in advance whether you or your tax adviser submits it to the authorities.
