Find the Best Shopify Experts in Hungary

A Hungarian store needs nothing unusual from Shopify itself. Payouts arrive in forint or euro, and both the admin and the checkout are available in Hungarian. The harder decision is who builds it, because the local bench is small.

There are three Shopify experts in Hungary on shopexperts as of October 2026, all 3 of them agencies, based in Budapest, Debrecen and Üröm. Each lists store setup, Shopify development, consulting and design, so these are strategy-and-build studios rather than single-skill contractors. Two also cover finance, taxes and compliance, which helps with the VAT set-up.

Three profiles is already a shortlist. Ask all three below for a quote on the same brief, and judge them on how well they question it, not just on price.

Three Hungarian agencies: their strengths and the language gap

A short list changes how you hire. With three local agencies you aren't filtering; you're interviewing. Book a call with each, give them the same brief, and compare how they push back on it.

All three Hungarian agencies list design, UX and branding alongside store setup, development, and consulting and strategy. That combination suits a brand that wants a considered build, with positioning, theme design and configuration handled by one team. Two list marketing and growth, two list finance, taxes and compliance, and one lists copywriting and content.

Language is the gap to plan around. All three list English, two list German and one French. None lists Hungarian on its profile. If Hungarian product copy, customer emails or staff training matter to you, ask directly and ask to see Hungarian text they've written. The German skills cut the other way: they're an asset if Austria or Germany is your next market.

Budapest, Debrecen and Üröm appear on the profiles. City matters little for an online build. It matters more for an in-store POS roll-out, where someone on site saves a lot of back-and-forth over video.

The listing below opens with the three experts based in Hungary. Next come experts from outside Hungary who take on projects for European merchants. For a Hungarian store, that second group isn't filler; it's where most of your options sit.

Hiring outside Hungary for a Hungarian store

Benchmark locally first. Treat the three local agencies as your baseline. Their proposals give you a reference for scope, timing and price to hold every regional quote against.

Ask regional experts for Hungarian proof. An agency abroad can configure a Hungarian store flawlessly and still ship clumsy Hungarian copy. Request the URL of a store they run for Hungarian customers, or have a native speaker review a sample product page before you sign.

Settle the currency question. Shopify Payments can pay a Hungarian store in forint or euro. If your payouts are in forint and a team invoices in euros, agree up front who absorbs the exchange difference on a project that runs for months. Fix the invoicing currency in the contract, not in an email.

Start with a tax audit. A small, fixed-price review of your VAT and OSS settings shows how a remote team plans work, reports progress and documents what it changed. It also tests the skill a Hungarian store most needs right, for far less than finding out halfway through a full build.

Keep the keys. Remote or local, your business should own the store, domain and app subscriptions, with the expert invited as a collaborator. Switching teams later then takes an afternoon, not a negotiation.

Forint, EU VAT and a Hungarian checkout: settings that matter

Shopify Payments works for stores based in Hungary, with payouts in Hungarian forint (HUF) or euro. Pick the one that matches the bank account your accountant reconciles, and set it before the first order.

Tax is the setting most worth paying an expert to get right. Hungary charges EU VAT, and Shopify gives a new store two routes. Shopify Tax works out rates for you. Manual Tax leaves you to enter and maintain them.

If you plan to sell to consumers in Austria, Germany or elsewhere in the EU through the One-Stop Shop scheme, the decision is largely made for you. Union OSS needs either Shopify Tax or Basic Tax behind it, and the latter stays closed to stores that only began collecting EU tax on or after 13 May 2026.

Neither route files anything for you. Submitting the return and paying the VAT remain your job, whichever tax service the store runs. A careful expert writes down the option they chose, so your accountant can check the store's settings against the returns.

For a physical shop, bear in mind that Shopify's hardware store won't ship your till to Hungary. According to Shopify, Hungarian merchants buy supported devices from third-party retailers instead, so ask your expert which models they've installed before you order any.

Shopify's admin and checkout both run in Hungarian. The platform's wording is covered; your theme, product pages and notification emails are a separate job for a fluent writer.

Four services every Hungarian profile lists

Each local agency lists several categories. Four of them appear on every one of the three profiles; the other three appear on one or two.

Design, UX and branding

On all 3 profiles: theme design and brand work in-house

Consulting and strategy

All three, so ask whether a discovery phase is in the quote

Store setup and management

Every Hungary-based agency lists it

Shopify development

Also universal across the three

Finance, taxes and compliance

Two of the three, handy for VAT and OSS configuration

Marketing and growth

Two of three; copywriting and content appears on one

Hiring for a Hungarian store: the practical questions

Is there a freelance Shopify expert in Hungary on shopexperts?

Not locally as of October 2026: all three Hungary-based profiles are agencies. If your job is small and well defined, such as a theme tweak or an app integration, look at independents among the European experts below the local three. Agree a fixed price, keep the scope in writing, and add them as a collaborator so your owner login stays private.

Is a Hungarian agency a good route into Austria and Germany?

German appears on two of the local profiles, which is a good start. Selling into German-speaking markets also means translated product data, shipping rates for those countries, a returns process, and VAT charged correctly to Austrian and German consumers. Ask to see a store the agency runs in those markets and how they'd structure yours: one store serving several countries, or separate stores.

How should I budget for a Shopify project in Hungary?

Since all three local agencies list consulting, ask them to price discovery, design, build and launch as separate phases. That lets you stop after any phase if the fit isn't right, and it shows where the money actually goes. Ask whether each phase price is fixed or an estimate.

Do I need a local expert to set up Shopify POS in Hungary?

Not necessarily. A remote expert can configure POS settings, locations and staff permissions. The physical part, connecting card readers, receipt printers and barcode scanners and testing them at the till, goes faster with someone in the room. If your shop is near Budapest or Debrecen, ask the local agencies whether on-site set-up is part of their offer.

Which languages should my Hungarian Shopify store run in?

Hungarian for local shoppers, at minimum, since the checkout already supports it and the remaining work sits in your theme and content. Add English or German only when you see real demand from those markets. Since none of the three local profiles lists Hungarian, line up the Hungarian writer before you think about a second language.
