Shopify Shop App Help: Store Page, Product Approval and Campaigns

The Shopify Shop app is Shopify's own shopping app, where buyers discover brands, pay with Shop Pay and track orders. The Shop channel, listed free on the App Store, is the merchant side of it. Eligible stores are listed automatically, and Shopify says you pay no marketplace fees to sell there. View the Shop channel listing.

Being listed is automatic. Looking good there is not. Merchants hire help to clear products that fail Shop's checks, build the Shop Store home page and collections, keep the wrong products out of the feed, and run Shop Campaigns, which charge only when a customer converts.

When no profile below fits, the product setup and conversion specialists linked at the end of this page take on Shop channel work as well.

Open a brief with your channel status, how many products show errors, and the collections you want shoppers to see first.

Shop channel work worth handing to a specialist

Shopify lists eligible stores on its own. The paid work is everything that decides how you come across once you're there.

Product approval cleanup. Each product needs an image on a variant, a price between $0.01 and $50,000 USD, and a standardized product category. On a large catalog, the category is the slow one to fix. A product and catalog setup specialist fixes that in bulk.

The Shop Store itself. Profile, avatar, contact details and social links, then the home page header, navigation and filters. Supported home page content can sync from your online store.

Category and collection picks. Up to 12 category icons and up to 5 collection lists of 10 collections each. Deciding which collections earn a place is merchandising, not settings.

Products that shouldn't appear. Unlisted status hides a product everywhere, your own store search included. The seo.hidden metafield removes it from Shop's feed and search but keeps its direct link working.

Shop Campaigns. Ads across the Shop app, the Shop website and the Shopify Product Network, at an average acquisition cost you set. Someone who works on marketing attribution should pick that number.

Subscriptions in Shop. Plans from the Shopify Subscriptions app show automatically and can be switched off for this channel.

Not worth a fee. A small catalog with clean categories and good photos needs a status check, not a project.

Choosing someone to run your Shop presence

Shop work sits between catalog data and marketing. Hire for whichever side your store is weaker on.

Hand them your product errors. Shop turns products away for a missing variant image, a price outside its range, no standardized category or a prohibited item. A good candidate sorts your catalog by those causes before quoting a single hour.

Ask how they'd choose collections. Only 10 collections display on the Shop Store, and each shows its first 250 products. The answer should come from your sales data, not your online store menu.

Ask about hiding products. They should explain Unlisted versus seo.hidden, and why Unlisted also pulls a product from internet search.

Ask what they'd target in Shop Campaigns. A sound answer starts from your current acquisition cost and margin, not a figure they reuse for every client.

Hesitate over anyone who promises featured placement in the app. Shopify decides that, and its help center says Shop can remove stores or products at any time.

A paid trial that tells you enough. Clear category errors on one product type and lay out the Shop Store home page, then review both on a phone.

Shopify Shop app rules that shape the setup

Eligibility has conditions. Shopify Payments active, a Starter plan or higher, the Online Store channel, no private mode, and a chargeback rate under 1% over six months. Password protection and age verification apps keep a store out. Status changes can take up to 48 hours.

The channel is optional for listing. Eligible stores appear without it. Installing it adds the settings and features covered above.

Reach follows Shopify Payments. Shop is offered in countries where Shopify Payments is supported, in 16 languages, and needs Shopify Network Intelligence turned on in your privacy settings.

US sales tax is handled for Shop orders. Since January 1, 2025, the channel collects, remits and files tax on orders shipping to or within the US, whatever your own tax settings say. Tell whoever handles your sales tax setup.

Collections have caps. Up to 50 can be marked visible, but only 10 display. Each needs an approved product, an image and Shop availability, and syncs can take 48 hours.

Some things have no opt-out. You can hide products but not the whole store, and you can't opt out of Shop Minis.

Service stays with you. Purchases run through your online store, so refunds, returns and disputes are yours.

Selling on the Shopify Shop app: questions answered

Does it cost anything to sell on the Shop app?

The Shop channel is listed as free, and Shopify says you pay no marketplace fees to sell on Shop. Costs come in only where you choose them: Shop Campaigns charge when a customer converts, at an average acquisition cost you set. Your real outlay is the time it takes to get product data into shape.

What do I need to sell on Shop app?

Shopify Payments, an active Starter plan or higher, the Online Store channel, a store that isn't in private mode, and a chargeback rate under 1% over the last six months. At least one product must pass Shop's checks. Eligible stores are added automatically, and status changes can take up to 48 hours.

Why are some of my products missing from Shop?

Usually product data. Each product needs an image on a variant, a price from $0.01 to $50,000 USD and a standardized product category. Prohibited items, such as age-restricted or hazardous goods, aren't approved. Unlisted products never show, and the seo.hidden metafield keeps products out of Shop's feed and search.

Can I take my store off the Shopify Shop app?

Not the whole store. Shopify's help center says you can hide individual products only, with Unlisted status or the seo.hidden metafield. Unlisted is the heavier option, because it also hides the product from Shopify Catalog, internet search and your online store search. Shop Minis has no opt-out.

Do I need a developer for the Shop channel?

Rarely. Most of the work is product data and merchandising in the admin. A developer helps when categories or the seo.hidden metafield have to be set across thousands of products at once. For the store page and campaign targets, look for catalog and marketing people instead.
