Shop Pay Installments

Shop Pay Shopify Experts for Checkout and Installments

Shop Pay is the accelerated checkout built into Shopify Payments. It saves a buyer's email, card and shipping details, so returning shoppers skip most of the checkout form. Shop Pay Installments adds buy now, pay later on top: pay in four, or monthly plans of up to 24 months.

Shop Pay Shopify experts rarely get hired to switch it on, because any store on Shopify Payments gets Shop Pay automatically. The real jobs are working out why it isn't showing, why Installments won't activate or was suspended, and how to promote financing on the site using approved wording.

As of October 2026 the Shop Pay badge sits on 7 shopexperts profiles: six freelancers and one agency, in Argentina, Bulgaria, Canada, North Macedonia, Nepal and the United States. Four work in Spanish as well as English. Say where your business is registered in the first message, because that decides what's possible.

What a Shop Pay Shopify expert actually fixes

Merchants call an expert when the Shop Pay button is missing, when Installments won't activate, or when an account gets suspended and nobody can say why.

Getting Shopify Payments live. Shop Pay rides on Shopify Payments. A store that processes cards only through a third-party gateway can't offer it the standard way, so the first job is often activating Shopify Payments with the right business details and payout currency.

Installments eligibility. Installments needs Shopify Payments and Shop Pay both active, a business entity in the US, Puerto Rico, Canada or the UK, and a payout currency that matches. An expert audits those conditions first, then the storefront issues that can get an account suspended.

Financing messages. Shopify publishes an approved messaging toolkit for Installments. A careful expert uses that wording on the storefront instead of improvising claims about interest or approval, and removes old banners quoting order limits that no longer apply.

Installments at the counter. Retailers can offer Shop Pay Installments on Shopify POS from app version 8.4.0. That means checking the version on every device and writing staff a short note on how to use Shop Pay Installments at the till.

Checkout review. Experts look at where Shop Pay appears for returning buyers and what else on the checkout competes with it. On a heavily customised checkout, that's where a Shop Pay developer earns the fee. On a default checkout, it's usually a settings review.

How to choose a Shop Pay expert

Seven profiles is a short list, and that's fine. Shop Pay work is narrow: you want someone who knows the eligibility rules without looking them up, not a generalist offering to optimise your checkout.

Notice the first questions they ask. A specialist asks where your business entity is registered and which currency you're paid out in. Those two answers settle most Installments questions before any work starts.

Ask what gets an account suspended. They should name the conditions quickly: a password-protected store, a primary language other than English, B2B selling, or regulated and prohibited products.

Red flags. A promised conversion lift, financing copy written from scratch rather than from Shopify's approved messaging, or advice to move off Shopify Payments to fix Shop Pay. Without Shopify Payments, the standard Shop Pay setup isn't available.

Start with a paid audit. Ask for a written check of Shopify Payments status, every Installments condition and each place the site mentions financing. If it turns up a registration or payout-currency mismatch, you learn that before paying for any build.

Six of the seven are freelancers, which suits audit-sized work. If the job grows into checkout customisation, ask to see a checkout they've changed before.

Shop Pay setup rules that depend on where you trade

No Shopify Payments, no Shop Pay. Shop Pay is included with Shopify Payments and processed at your Shopify Payments rates, with no separate fee. Take Shopify Payments away and Shop Pay goes with it.

Installments covers three markets. The business entity has to sit in the United States or Puerto Rico and be paid out in USD, in Canada in CAD, or in the UK in GBP. Shopify Payments and Shop Pay must both be active first.

The order limits have changed. Shopify's help centre now gives Installments order values of $35 to $30,000 USD in the US, including discounts, shipping and taxes, $35 to $30,000 CAD in Canada and £50 to £30,000 in the UK. Earlier figures are out of date, so check any banner or product-page message that quotes them.

Storefront conditions can trigger a suspension. The financing partner can suspend Installments if the store is password-protected, its primary language isn't English, it sells in a currency other than USD, CAD or GBP, or it sells B2B, gambling, financial services, or regulated or prohibited products. A good expert reviews these before launch.

How payouts work. On an Installments order you receive full payment within one to three business days, minus the Installments fee, and the financing partner collects the instalments from your customer.

Shop moved to shop.com. On 29 September 2026, Shop's web experience moved from shop.app to shop.com. Old links redirect, but links hard-coded into emails and theme footers are worth updating while someone is in there.

Shop Pay and Installments: what merchants ask

How do I enable Shop Pay on my Shopify store?

Usually you don't have to. Any merchant using Shopify Payments gets Shop Pay automatically. If it isn't appearing at checkout, confirm first that Shopify Payments is active and that the store isn't processing cards only through a third-party gateway. If both check out and Shop Pay is still missing, that's the point to bring in an expert.

How do I set up Shop Pay Installments?

Activate Shopify Payments and Shop Pay first. Then confirm the business entity is in the US or Puerto Rico, Canada or the UK, with a payout currency that matches, and that the storefront is English-language and not password-protected. Once you're eligible, add financing messages using Shopify's approved wording rather than your own.

Does Shop Pay cost anything extra?

Shop Pay itself has no separate fee: transactions are processed at your Shopify Payments rates. Installments works differently. A merchant fee applies to each Installments order and comes off before payout, while customers pay between 0% and 36% APR depending on the plan. We couldn't find the rate published on Shopify's Installments pages, so confirm it in your admin before you promote financing.

When do I get paid on an Installments order?

Shopify's FAQ says you receive full payment for the order within one to three business days, excluding the Installments fee. The financing partner then collects the instalments from your customer, so your cash flow looks like a normal card sale rather than a payment plan.

Can I offer Shop Pay Installments in a physical shop?

Yes, on Shopify POS app version 8.4.0 or later. Check every device before launch day, since one tablet on an old version is enough to confuse staff at the counter. Give the team a one-page note covering when to offer it, and keep the same approved wording you use online.

Do I need a Shop Pay developer, or will settings do?

Settings cover most stores. Shop Pay and Installments are configured in the admin, and financing messages come from Shopify's approved toolkit. A Shop Pay developer earns their fee when checkout customisations are involved, or when a theme needs custom placement of financing messages. Six of the seven profiles here list Shopify development, so both kinds of help are available.
