UpPromote runs affiliate, influencer and referral programmes for Shopify brands. It tracks partner sales through links, coupons, connected customers and connected products, handles commissions, approvals and payouts, and helps vet creators with audience reports and authenticity scores before you sign them.
The app does the counting. UpPromote Shopify experts set the rules it counts by: commission structures, which tracking method applies to which partner, coupon logic that doesn't leak, registration pages and a branded affiliate portal. They also connect UpPromote to the store's email tool and bring existing affiliates across from another affiliate app.
Five experts hold the UpPromote badge on shopexperts as of October 2026. Four are agencies and one works freelance. Between them they cover Canada, the UK, Hong Kong and Thailand, and list Japanese and Chinese among their languages. Read all five below, then send your commission plan, in a couple of sentences, to the two closest fits.
Most affiliate programmes go wrong on rules, not software. Commissions nobody can explain, discount codes that end up on coupon sites, partners who never hear back after signing up. An UpPromote expert sorts those out before launch.
Commission structures. Separate terms for affiliates, influencers and customer referrals. UpPromote allows flexible commissions; the expert's job is keeping them simple enough that a partner can repeat them back.
Tracking methods. Referral links, coupons, connected customers and connected products. UpPromote is built to run several without double counting, but each suits a different kind of partner, and someone has to match them.
Leak and fraud protection. Anti-leak discount links, fraud detection and block lists, configured before a big creator push rather than after the first odd-looking order.
Creator recruitment. Using audience reports, authenticity scores and past collaborations to vet influencers, then setting approval rules and automatic discounts for the ones who pass.
Portals and messages. Registration pages, a branded affiliate dashboard, sender-domain authentication so programme emails reach inboxes, and email-platform events for referral rewards, newly assigned coupons and payment reminders.
Shopify data. Customer sync, which creates a Shopify customer for each affiliate, and order tagging, which marks tracked orders so reports and Shopify Flow workflows can pick them out.
Moving affiliates in. Importing partners from another affiliate app, then checking links, coupons and commission rates before anyone is told to switch.
Five profiles, four of them agencies. That mix suits programmes where recruiting and managing creators is part of the job. If you only need the app configured, say so in the first message and expect a tighter scope.
Ask them to explain your commission plan back to you. If they can't describe it in two sentences, your affiliates won't understand it either.
Ask how they would stop discount leaks. A good answer mentions anti-leak links, coupon rules and block lists. "We'll keep an eye on it" is not an answer.
Ask about the money side. Where will commission costs show up, and who reconciles payouts against Shopify orders each month? Order tags help with that, so ask how they would name and use them.
Red flags. Promised affiliate revenue. A creator list delivered before anyone has read the audience reports. Commission tiers so layered that partners need a spreadsheet to follow them.
Start with a paid audit. For a running programme, a short review of commissions, tracking methods and fraud settings is a sensible first task. For a new one, ask for the written programme rules before any setup begins.
Tags have a 40-character limit. Tracked orders get an UpPromote_order tag, and any tag longer than 40 characters, variable values included, simply fails to attach. Keep tag templates short, or reports and automations will quietly miss orders.
Customer sync adds records. Switching it on creates a Shopify customer for every affiliate, tagged uppromote_affiliate. Exclude that tag from marketing segments unless you mean to email partners as shoppers.
Check the plan before building on it. UpPromote Affiliate Marketing has Free, Growth, Professional and Enterprise plans, with a 14-day free trial on the paid ones. Paid plans also take a percentage of each successful referral sale on top of the monthly charge, so build that into commission rates. Confirm which plan includes customer sync and order tagging before an expert designs reporting around them.
AI access arrived in September 2026. UpPromote added a read-only Shopify Sidekick app extension, free on every plan, for asking questions about affiliate data in plain language, plus an UpPromote MCP server for connecting AI tools. Handy for reporting. It doesn't replace someone owning the programme.
Install the right listing. UpPromote has grown from affiliate tracking into influencer and referral marketing, but its App Store address still carries a misspelt legacy handle, and a different developer's app sits at a similar address. Install the listing titled UpPromote Affiliate Marketing, published by UpPromote.
All 5 UpPromote-badge experts list store setup. Four list marketing and four list development, so most can run the programme and wire it into the store.
5 of 5 list it: commissions, tracking methods and payout settings
4 list it: creator recruitment and referral offers
4 list it: order tags, customer sync and email-platform events
3 list it: a second opinion on commission design
3 list it: registration pages and the affiliate portal

UpPromote runs a partner programme for service providers, content creators and technology partners, and pays lifetime referral commissions. A shopexperts badge isn't that status. If an expert recommends a particular UpPromote plan, ask whether they earn from your subscription. It is a normal arrangement and no reason to rule anyone out, but you should know about it.
Start from margin after discounts and the UpPromote performance charge, not from a number that sounds attractive. Then decide whether creators, everyday affiliates and customer referrers deserve different terms. Fewer rates are easier to explain, easier to audit and harder to game.
Yes. UpPromote covers affiliate, influencer and referral marketing, and it can send events to your email platform when a customer earns a referral reward. Keep the commission rules separate, though: a customer telling a friend and a creator with an audience are different deals.
UpPromote can automate approvals and payouts, and it can trigger payment reminder emails through your email tool. You still choose how often you pay, how long you wait for returns to clear, and who signs off each batch. Write those rules into the programme terms before the first partner joins.
The listing names Hydrogen alongside Checkout, Customer accounts and Shopify Admin, so a headless store isn't ruled out. Ask the expert to explain how links and coupons will be tracked on your storefront specifically, and to test a referral end to end before launch.
No. Installing the app is the easy part. Expert time pays off on the decisions around it: commission design, fraud settings, creator vetting and the reporting that tells you whether affiliates are profitable. If you can't yet answer that last question, start there.
