Find the Best Shopify Experts in Colombia

Three parts of a Colombian Shopify build need a person, not a default setting. Stores based in Colombia can't use Shopify Payments, which puts every payment at checkout in the hands of a third-party provider settling in pesos. Tax rates go in by hand, and POS hardware comes from outside retailers.

Those three jobs are where Shopify experts in Colombia earn their fee. A good one will tell you which of them is likely to hold up your launch before sending a quote.

As of October 2026, shopexperts has 14 experts based in Colombia: 12 agencies and 2 freelancers, in cities including Medellín, Bogotá and Barranquilla. All 14 list Shopify development and store setup, 12 add marketing and growth, and every profile lists both English and Spanish.

Shortlist two or three profiles below and ask each how they'd connect a payment provider for a store priced in pesos.

Colombia's experts: agency-led and fully bilingual

Mostly agencies, and that sets the price of entry. Twelve of the 14 Colombia-based experts are agencies; the other 2 are freelancers. An agency staffs a job with a project lead, design and development, and you pay for that coordination even on a small fix. If your store needs one developer for a fortnight, start with the two freelancers.

Every profile is bilingual. All 14 list English and Spanish, and one adds French. A Barranquilla store can brief entirely in Spanish, while a foreign brand hiring a Colombian team can run the project in English. Treat language as a given here, not a premium.

Build and setup are universal. All 14 profiles list both Shopify Development and Store Setup & Management. Marketing & Growth follows at 12, and Consulting & Strategy at 9. Most local experts can take a store from empty to trading and then run its campaigns, so one hire can cover launch and the months after it.

Tax help is the thin spot. Only 5 list Finance, Taxes & Compliance. That matters more in Colombia than the number suggests, because Shopify leaves every tax rate to the merchant here. If tax set-up is part of the job, look for that category before you shortlist.

Medellín, Bogotá, Barranquilla. These are the main cities on the profiles, so an in-person workshop is easiest to arrange in one of the three.

The order of the listing. Colombia-based experts come first. Below them sits a small set of experts based elsewhere who take on international clients — worth scrolling to if you need a specialism the local profiles don't list.

Three rules for shortlisting in Colombia

Fourteen local profiles is a workable shortlist, and with 12 of them agencies, most of the choosing is between teams. Three rules narrow it quickly.

Stay local if you sell mainly at home. A store priced in pesos, written in Spanish and taking payments through a provider local shoppers recognise sits squarely inside what these profiles offer. Knowing which checkout options Colombian buyers expect beats a famous portfolio from another market.

Scroll further for brand-led work. Only 5 local experts list Design, UX & Branding and 6 list Copywriting & Content. A full rebrand, or a brief the local profiles don't mention at all, is where the international experts lower down the listing earn their place. Planning is a different story: Consulting & Strategy appears on 9 local profiles, so strategy work rarely needs to leave Colombia.

Fix the currency before quotes arrive. Say in the brief whether you'll pay in pesos or US dollars. A quote in COP next to one in USD is hard to weigh up, and exchange-rate drift on a long project turns into a negotiation nobody wants. Agree the payment schedule in the same line, with milestones tied to finished work rather than dates.

Where Shopify's built-in services stop for Colombian stores

Shopify works in Colombia, but several of its built-in services stop at the border. Expect a capable expert to raise all four in the first call.

Payments run through a third party. Colombian stores have no access to Shopify Payments, so your expert connects a third-party payment provider and sets the store currency to Colombian pesos (COP). Ask which providers they've integrated before, which payment methods each shows at checkout and what each charges per transaction.

Tax is entered by hand. Colombia is a Manual Tax country on Shopify: neither Shopify Tax nor Basic Tax applies, so nothing calculates or updates rates for you. Your expert enters the rates your accountant confirms. Third-party tax apps are permitted too, for anyone who'd prefer software to keep the rates.

POS hardware comes from other retailers. Shopify won't send hardware from its own store to Colombia. Selling in person as well? Have your expert check each reader, printer or scanner against Shopify's list of supported devices before you pay a third-party retailer for it.

Spanish works in the admin and at checkout. Your team can manage orders in Spanish, and Colombian shoppers pay through a Spanish checkout. Still have someone proofread checkout and notification emails: anything custom you add is only as good as whoever wrote it.

Colombia hiring FAQs: cost, agencies and selling abroad

What does a Colombian Shopify build cost?

Colombian profiles rarely show a starting price, so this page has no range to quote. With 12 of the 14 local experts being agencies, most quotes you receive will include project management. Product count, a migration from another platform, the payment provider integration and any custom features shift the number most. Ask each agency what its quote leaves out.

Does a small Colombian store really need an agency?

Often, no. A store selling a few dozen products at home, in pesos, on a ready-made theme needs one competent developer and a clear brief, not a team with an account manager. Agencies earn their fee when design, development and marketing run at once, or when you want someone answering the phone at launch. With only two freelancers based in Colombia, ask about their availability in your first message.

Can a brand based outside Colombia hire a Colombian team?

Yes. Every Colombia-based profile lists English, so the project can run in English from brief to handover. One thing changes: the set-up points on this page apply to stores based in Colombia. Shopify decides Shopify Payments availability by where the business is located, so a brand registered elsewhere may have options a Colombian store doesn't. Tell the team where your company is registered before they plan the checkout.

Can a Colombia-based expert set my store up to sell outside Colombia?

Yes, and language won't hold it back: all 14 local profiles list English as well as Spanish. Scope it as its own job, though. Selling abroad adds currencies, shipping zones, translated content and a check that your payment provider accepts foreign cards and settles the way you need. For a larger rollout, international expansion experts handle it as a dedicated service.

What does moving an existing Colombian store to Shopify involve?

Products, customers and order history move over; your payment set-up doesn't. Expect your expert to map old URLs to new ones with redirects, rebuild the theme, reconnect or replace the payment provider and re-enter tax rates by hand. Ask whether past orders come across in full or as a summary. If your catalogue is large, specialist store migration experts are worth a look.
