MESA Shopify Help: Workflow Builds, Syncs and Task Budgets

MESA is a workflow automation app from ShopPad, on the Shopify App Store since 2019. A MESA Shopify workflow starts from a store event or a schedule, then tags orders, updates stock, alerts staff or syncs records with Google Sheets, Odoo, Salesforce, Etsy and other tools. Build it from a template or describe it to the AI assistant in plain English. As of October 2026, the free Starter plan covers 50 tasks a month.

Installing MESA is the quick part. Experts earn their fee on the logic: ERP and CRM syncs, purchase orders sent to suppliers, fraud holds, and multi-step jobs that keep running overnight while nobody watches the log.

As of October 2026, 7 experts carry the MESA badge on shopexperts: 3 agencies and 4 freelancers, based in Argentina, Bulgaria, Canada, Italy, Nepal, Serbia and the United States.

Open your first message with the three manual jobs your team repeats every week and the systems each one touches.

MESA workflows worth paying someone to build

Templates cover the common jobs. Pay for the workflows that connect systems, move money or stock, or need to fail loudly.

Routine to workflow. Turning a written routine into a trigger, filters and steps, with Paths for the branches. A draft from MESA's AI assistant is a start; someone still checks every condition against real orders.

ERP, CRM and spreadsheet syncs. Orders, customers or stock levels pushed to Odoo, Salesforce or Google Sheets on each event or on a timer, with field mapping agreed before the first run. When the sync is the whole project, ERP integration specialists own the back-office side.

Supplier and staff alerts. Low-stock warnings, purchase orders and fraud flags sent by email, SMS or FTP, with templates and attachments set per recipient.

Hosted JavaScript steps. MESA can run your own code where no built-in step fits. That code needs an owner and comments, or it becomes the step nobody dares edit.

Task budget reviews. Every step that runs uses a task. A workflow that fetches each line item separately can burn a month's allowance in a week. A review finds those loops before the overage charge does.

One template is not a project. MESA offers a free setup session and its own Workflow Services for complex builds. A single order-tagging workflow doesn't need a freelancer.

Choosing a MESA builder: questions that sort the field

Good MESA builders think in runs and tasks, not screens. Their answers should use numbers from your store.

Ask for the task math. Give them your monthly order count and one workflow you want. A strong answer multiplies steps per run by runs per month and names the plan that lands on.

Ask how a failed run reaches a person. Logs on most plans hold runs for up to 7 days. If the plan is to glance at the log now and then, a failure on a Friday night can age out before anyone opens it.

Ask which step they would write as code. Hosted JavaScript is useful and costly to maintain. The right person reaches for built-in steps first and can explain why one step needs code. For API-heavy builds, API integration developers are the closer match.

Ask about your other systems. Someone who has synced Odoo or Salesforce before asks about duplicate records, and which system wins a conflict, before quoting.

Signs a MESA quote is thin. No task estimate, tests run on live orders, and no written list of what each workflow does or who fixes it when it stops.

Trial with one weekly chore. Pay for one recurring job automated end to end, plus a one-page runbook. It shows how they test and document before you hand over the ERP sync.

MESA Shopify plans, task counting and log limits

App Store plans. As of October 2026, Starter is free with 50 tasks a month, Basic is $12 for 500, Flex is $29 for 10,000 and Pro is $99 for 50,000. Paid plans carry a 7-day trial, and annual billing saves 30%. MESA's own site also lists an Unlimited plan at $299 and custom contracts.

What counts as a task. A trigger that fires, and each step that runs. Loops and Paths don't count. Past the allowance, Starter through Pro charge $0.01 per task.

Premium steps use a separate pool. AI, email, SMS, image and weather steps draw premium tasks: 50 on Starter and Basic, 500 on Flex, 1,500 on Pro, then $0.02 each. An AI step on every order can run dry long before standard tasks do.

Logs age out. Starter through Pro keep up to 10,000 log entries for up to 7 days; Unlimited keeps 30 days. Manual replay is included on every plan.

Throughput. Plans below Pro get one parallel worker and Pro gets two, with incoming requests capped at 4 a second below Unlimited. Time a large backfill around that, not during a sale.

Connector access. The vendor's plan table shows access to all apps from Pro upward. Confirm the connector you need is on your plan before scoping.

Language and support. The app is English-only, with US-based email and chat support on every plan and priority support from Pro.

MESA pricing, tasks and hiring FAQs

How much does MESA cost for a Shopify store?

As of October 2026, the App Store lists a free Starter plan with 50 tasks, then Basic at $12, Flex at $29 and Pro at $99 a month, with 30% off for annual billing. Extra standard tasks cost $0.01 each on those plans. Design drives the bill more than the plan: a lean workflow on Basic can do what a careless one needs Flex for.

Do I need a developer to set up MESA?

Not for templates or simple workflows. MESA builds from plain-English requests and a template library, and its team runs free setup sessions. A developer is worth paying when a workflow needs hosted JavaScript, calls an API with no ready-made connector, or syncs records with an ERP where a duplicate costs money.

Can MESA and Shopify Flow run on the same store?

MESA lists Shopify Flow among its integrations. Decide which tool owns each job and write it down. Two workflows tagging the same order or changing the same stock level will clash, and with logs in two places the cause is slow to find. The Shopify Flow setup guide covers the native side.

How do I move workflows from another automation app into MESA?

Plan to rebuild rather than import. List every workflow with its trigger, conditions and actions, rebuild them one at a time, and switch off the old version before the new one goes live. Push test orders through each. Count steps as you go, so the task estimate is real before you pick a plan.

What happens when a MESA workflow fails?

The run appears in the workflow log, and manual replay is included on every plan. On Starter through Pro the log keeps runs for up to 7 days, so workflows that touch orders or stock should send a custom alert to a named person when they fail, rather than wait for someone to check.

What do MESA experts need from me before quoting?

Your MESA plan, monthly order volume, the tools the workflows must reach, and screenshots of anything already running. Then describe the three jobs you want gone, step by step, including who does them today and what breaks when they forget.
