Visually Shopify App Help: A/B Tests, Checkout Blocks and Upsells

The Visually Shopify app is a no-code testing and personalization tool from Visually.io, on the App Store since June 2022. It runs standard, multivariate, redirect and theme tests across the homepage, product pages, cart, checkout and post-purchase, and it can test prices, discounts and shipping as well. Full details sit on Visually's App Store listing.

Changing a headline in the visual editor is the easy part. Merchants bring in an expert for test design, for price and shipping experiments that touch margin, for checkout blocks on Shopify Plus, and for reading results without calling a winner too early.

As of October 2026, 10 experts carry the Visually badge on shopexperts: 3 agencies and 7 freelancers, based in Canada, the United States, Italy, Belgium, Kenya and North Macedonia.

Open with your monthly sessions and orders, your current conversion rate and the one page you most want to change.

Visually Shopify projects that need a practitioner

Building a variant takes minutes. The paid part is choosing what to test, wiring it correctly and knowing when to stop.

A ranked test backlog. Turning analytics and session recordings into hypotheses, each with one success metric and a minimum run time. Google Analytics and Clarity both connect to the app, so the evidence is already there.

Price, discount and shipping tests. Visually can test all three. Each one moves margin directly, so someone has to set the guardrails first: which products, which markets, and how much you are willing to give up while the test runs.

Theme against theme. A theme test puts a redesigned theme up against the live one, so a redesign ships on evidence instead of opinion.

Checkout blocks. Placing Visually blocks in the checkout editor and split-testing them. This is Shopify Plus territory, and checkout customization experts already know the editor and its placement rules.

Offer placement. Cart drawer offers, free shipping progress bars, tiered discounts and thank-you page upsells, tested one at a time instead of stacked on the same page.

Audience segments. Personalization built on catalog and behavior signals, checked so segments don't overlap or split traffic too thin to read.

Edits you can make yourself. A new hero image or a reworded button needs no outside help. The drag-and-drop editor handles it, and Visually offers chat support.

Picking a Visually expert who reads tests properly

Most badge holders can build a variant. Fewer can tell you whether a result is real. These questions show the difference.

Ask about a test that lost. A strong answer covers the hypothesis, why it failed and what the next test changed. Someone who only shows winners is selling, not testing.

Ask how long one test needs on your store. They should work it out from your sessions, orders and the smallest lift worth detecting, and say plainly if your traffic supports one test at a time.

Ask how they would run a price test. Listen for excluded products, how existing discount codes interact, and what support tells a customer who saw two prices.

Ask for their launch checklist. Mobile and desktop previews, a flicker check on a slow connection, and events confirmed in Google Analytics before traffic is split.

Answers that should worry you. A promised conversion lift, several overlapping tests on a low-traffic page, or a winner declared after one weekend.

A fixed-fee pilot. One product page test, briefed and reported in writing. The write-up tells you more than the result. For budget context, see what Shopify CRO costs.

Visually plan rules and checkout limits

Plans follow order volume. As of October 2026 the listing shows $15 a month for up to 100 orders, $25 for up to 200 and $80 for up to 600, each with a 14-day free trial and unlimited A/B tests. No higher tier is shown on the listing.

The free plan is for development stores. It includes the visual editor, which suits agency builds, but a trading store needs a paid plan once the trial ends.

Checkout editing needs Plus. Visually's help center says only Shopify Plus accounts can edit the checkout section. Blocks go in as an app block in the checkout editor, with "Enable on ShopPay" switched on and "Allow to block checkout" switched off.

One app per checkout slot. Only one app can manage a given checkout block position, and Visually can't split-test a block another app controls. Map current placements before adding anything.

Multi-step checkout is narrower. There, only blocks can be added and only the information page can be customized for now.

Checkout changes are per device. Each edit applies to one device, so desktop and mobile need separate passes.

English admin, multilingual storefront. The listing names English as the app's language and lists multi-currency and multi-language support.

Visually Shopify app questions: Plus, cost and speed

What does Visually.io do on a Shopify store?

Two jobs in one app. It runs A/B, multivariate, redirect and theme tests, and it adds conversion features such as cart drawers, progress bars, product recommendations and post-purchase offers, which can themselves be tested. Personalization by catalog and behavior signals sits on top. The App Store files it under upsell and cross-sell first.

Do I need Shopify Plus to use the Visually Shopify app?

Not as far as the listing shows: it names no Shopify plan requirement for storefront tests. Checkout is different. Visually's help center says only Plus accounts can edit the checkout section, so checkout blocks and their split tests need Plus. If you are not on Plus, plan your tests around product pages, cart and post-purchase.

What does Visually setup cost beyond the app plan?

The plan covers the software. Expert time depends on how many tests you want designed, built and read each month, and whether checkout or theme work is involved. Ask for a fixed price on one test before agreeing to a monthly retainer, and check it against our Shopify CRO cost guide.

Will Visually slow my store down?

Visually says its architecture avoids flicker and keeps pages fast. Check it on your own store anyway: record speed scores before install and again with a test live, and watch for flicker on a phone over a slow connection. If scores drop, speed optimization experts can trace the cause.

Can a developer test a new theme with Visually before it goes live?

Yes. Theme tests are one of Visually's test types, alongside standard, multivariate and redirect tests. Have the developer finish and QA the new theme first, then let the test decide whether it replaces the current one. Agree the success metric and minimum run time before the test starts, not after.
