Kickflip Shopify Product Configurator Experts

Kickflip Shopify stores sell products that customers design themselves. Kickflip is a no-code visual product configurator: shoppers choose colours, add text, logos or images and swap components, watching a live preview from several angles while the price updates. Each order then reaches production with print-ready files.

A configurator is only as good as the product built inside it. Merchants hire for the slow parts: layered product imagery, rules that block combinations you can’t make, pricing for each option, and a production handover that nobody has to retype.

As of October 2026 the Kickflip badge appears on 6 shopexperts profiles, split evenly between 3 agencies and 3 freelancers, based in Canada, Pakistan, Kenya and the Philippines. Look at their work below and send one product you want to configure, with photos or 3D files if you have them.

Building a Kickflip product configurator, start to finish

A configurator project is part image production, part logic and part operations. Few stores have all three in-house, which is why this work gets hired out.

Imagery first. Kickflip builds its visuals from layered transparent PNGs, one per part and per view. They come from photography or from 3D software, where an artist renders each part separately. Preparing those layers is often the longest single task on the project.

Options, rules and pricing. An expert lists every component, colour, text field and upload, then adds the logic that blocks impossible combinations and the per-option pricing that updates the total as the shopper clicks. SKU tracking for the parts sits here too.

Personalisation. Text in chosen fonts, uploaded images and logos placed on the product, positioned where your production process can actually print or engrave them.

The product page. Kickflip goes onto the product page as a theme App Embed with no Liquid edits. The expert’s job is everything around it: layout, mobile behaviour and how the configurator sits next to your product copy.

Production and orders. Customisation detail travels with each order as line item properties, and print-ready files go to production. Experts connect that output to how you really make things, bulk orders included.

Selling in several currencies. Lining Kickflip prices up with your Shopify Markets adjustments and rounding, and making sure somebody re-syncs after every change.

Picking a Kickflip agency or freelancer

Five of the six badge holders list Shopify development and four list design, so this group has both builders and image people. Find out which one you are talking to, because a configurator needs both skills.

Ask for a live configurator. A link to a product they built tells you more than any slide. Open it on your phone, try a few combinations and watch the price change.

Ask who prepares the images. If the expert expects you to supply layered PNGs, you may need a photographer or 3D artist as well. Get that in writing before you agree a timeline.

Give them one awkward rule. A part that only fits one model, a text limit on a small engraving area. Ask how they would stop the wrong combination reaching the cart.

Red flags. A promised real-time 3D viewer that nobody has checked with Kickflip. A plan to tidy Kickflip’s variant metafields directly in Shopify. No mention of a test order through production.

A small paid start. Configure one product end to end, including one test order that goes all the way to production. It shows quickly whether the files come out the way your printer needs them.

Kickflip Shopify setup: metafields, Markets and billing

Leave Kickflip’s metafields alone. Kickflip creates Shopify products and variants and manages their metafields. Edit those metafields in the Shopify admin and Add to Cart stops working. The fix is clumsy: delete the product, disconnect it and reconnect it in Kickflip. Tell your team before anyone starts tidying up.

Watch the metafield limit. Shopify allows 250 metafield definitions, and Kickflip’s installation fails when that limit is reached. Keep at least 10 free. Stores running many apps should check before installing.

Markets need a manual sync. Kickflip follows your Shopify Markets price adjustments and rounding, but changes only apply after someone runs Sync markets. It supports catalogue-wide percentage adjustments, not per-product prices for a specific market.

The store must take payments. Kickflip bills through your Shopify invoice, so the store has to accept payments and can’t be in development mode. A developer building on a dev store needs a plan for that.

Checkout stays Shopify’s. Orders go through your normal Shopify checkout with the customisation attached as line item properties. Anything downstream that reads orders, such as fulfilment or print tools, has to read those properties.

Pricing has two parts. Alongside the monthly charge, Kickflip takes a share of each custom product sale that falls as volume grows. Build it into the price of configured products.

Look for the old handle. The App Store address still uses the legacy handle mycustomizer-1, so the URL won’t say Kickflip.

Kickflip app questions from Shopify merchants

Is the Kickflip product customizer the same as the configurator?

Yes, it is one app. The App Store lists it as Kickflip product configurators, and people search for it as a customizer too. Text, image and logo personalisation are part of it, alongside multi-component products where shoppers add, remove or change pieces in the live preview. One build can mix both.

Do I need a developer to install Kickflip?

No. The App Embed goes on without Liquid edits, and the configurator itself is built in Kickflip’s no-code editor. Developers earn their fee around it: product page layout, making line item properties readable in fulfilment, and multi-currency set-up. If your products are simple and your images are ready, a store setup specialist may be enough.

What should I prepare before a Kickflip build?

Photos or 3D files for every part and every view you want shown, a full list of options with their prices, the combinations that must never be sold, and your production requirements: file format, print areas and how orders reach the workshop. The more of this exists on day one, the more accurate the quote.

Can I try Kickflip before hiring anyone?

Yes. Kickflip offers a 14-day free trial with no card needed. Build one simple product yourself first. You will learn where the effort goes and write a sharper brief. Remember the store has to accept payments for billing to work, so a development store is not the place to trial it.

Do the experts here hold Kickflip partner status?

Kickflip keeps its own expert directory for configurator, 3D modelling and Shopify specialists, with partner tiers. That status comes from Kickflip, and the shopexperts badge is a separate thing Kickflip doesn’t hand out. If directory status matters to you, ask an expert whether they’re listed there and check the listing yourself.
